“Il Vuoto” born from the need to create both a physical and mental refuge, is the first major collaborative project completed by the first-year Interior Design students.
It holds great symbolic significance for all of us—students and faculty alike—who felt the urge to create something lasting, a tangible and indelible memory.
The course progressed with students and professors working side by side to bring a unified project to life, one that could be integrated into the university’s space. To achieve this, the class was divided into teams to tackle the different stages of the project, from written, graphic, and visual communication to the selection of materials, forms, and ultimately the realization.
The goal was to create a communal space, a refuge symbolizing personal rebirth. The structure’s simple, geometric lines carve out the void of an unforgettable memory, while the circular seating element represents gathering and unity, highlighting the value of community and the importance of sharing a space while respecting individual privacy.
